Light of the World, Light of the Lord

Light of the World, Light of the Lord

We have just come through the Christmas season – a time of excitement and joy. It’s the time when we celebrate the birth of the baby Jesus in the little town of Bethlehem. Our Savior has come!

In his Gospel, the apostle John puts it this way: The one and only living God came into the world to be the light of the world.

Light is a wonderful thing.

It brings clarity and knowledge into the darkness of ignorance, and that’s a good description of what Jesus does for us. Through faith in Jesus as our one and only Lord and Redeemer, the light of the Lord opens our eyes to how He has paid for our sins through His passion and death on Calvary’s cross. It shows how He loves and values us as His treasured possessions, how He wants us to spend eternity with Him.

Because the light of the Lord has secured all these blessings for us, no one can come and rob us of them. These blessings are ours forever through faith in Christ… all of our stress, anxiety, and fear can slowly fade away. We can live in the joy of Jesus!

That powerful and loving light of Jesus also helps us see others as God sees us – as people in need of a Savior. We are all “in the same boat” – we are strangers in a strange land, on our way to our true home with the Lord.

Let’s begin the new year together, helping one another, comforting one another, forgiving one another, and upholding one another.

As the Bible says, while we were all still sinners, Christ died for each one of us.
